Subject: how does node in a rac cluster know about each other
Os info: Linux64
Oracle info: 11gR2
Message: Hi all,
Recently i just converted a single instance database into RAC by
changing some of the pfiles parameter (e.g. cluster_Database,
undo_Tablespace2, redo thread etc, remote listener etc).. and lastly
registering with the shared database and instances using srvctl.
But after finishing, this make me think -> yes, the 2 node are sharing
the same pfile, and yes, they will talk to each other via the
interconnect.
q1) but how does they know of each other existence in the 1st place,
and how to connect to each other ?
- is it via the OCR ?
- if the above answer is yes, does that means, before registering the
instances with the cluster, they do not know of each other existence ?
q2) for those who had converted database manually to rac in 11gR2, do
you still run the catclust.sql after conversion ?
q3) in 11gR2 grid/rac setup, do we still need to set private IP on the
network interfaces for private interconnect ?
I have manually/statically setup private IP on the network interfaces,
but another set of HAIP IPs are created on the private network
interfaces automatically during grid installation as well
